AMISH BABY BOOM PART 2 - CANADIAN AMISH ON THE RISE

“Our children are the only treasures we can take to heaven.” Why Mennonites have large families? [PHOTO SOURCE: https://www.krsc.ca/mennonites/] “There are two explanatory factors: one is large families, and the second is high retention rates,” said Professor Steven Nolt, Director and Senior Scholar at the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College. “If you looked at the 1930s, up through about 2000, the retention rate had actually increased. There’s a case study that showed that the retention rate went from the upper 70 percent to 90 percent,” he said. https://hoptownchronicle.org/across-the-country-amish-populations-are-on-the-rise/ https://groups.etown.edu/amishstudies/population-2024/ https://amishamerica.com/2024-amish-population-passes-four-hundred-thousand/ https://www.anabaptistconnections.org/ BLOG: https://blackforestproject421.blogspot.com/2024/10/amish-baby-boom-part-1-proverbs-about.html |
The Amish of Canada settled in southwestern Ontario, having come from the United States in 1815 and directly from Europe in 1822. They numbered about 1,000 people in 1991. As of 2024, the Canadian Amish population exceeds 6,000 people, living in 20 different communities.
The world is currently facing a global fertility collapse. Many countries around the world have a fertility rate below replacement level (less than 2.1 fertility rate), which will affect their country’s population and economy in the future. No population means no country.
However, these countries/continents have high fertility rates and will probably outgrow those others with low fertility. They are Sub-Sahara Africa, Israel, Faroe Islands, Mongolia (in 2023 – there were 4 births for every 1 death), and Tibet and last, but not least…. the Amish and other Plain People Groups like Beachy Amish Mennonites, Conservative Mennonites, Hutterites and the haredi jews.

I believe the Amish (even Beachy Amish Mennonites, Conservative Mennonites and Hutterites) will outgrow us despite low global fertility issue. In 2022, In its annual Amish population study, the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College estimates that 1,450 Amish babies were born in Lancaster County last year. Only 145 Amish of all ages died. That population increase of 1,305 brought the total number of Amish living here to 44,315. There were more Amish births than deaths in that state.

THE AMISH ARE TAKING OVER:
The Amish population in North America has more than doubled since 2000 to 2024, due to their 85% to 90% retention rate and their high fertility rate. They need more land. Due to their four core values, they have managed to maintain their communities well.
Just like the Amish are repopulating Nebraska’s Sandhills, the Canadian Amish have started two new settlements in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. I feel the Amish in North America will start taking over ghost towns or abandoned farms. One reason is that they have many children like those in Israel, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Faroe Islands, where they will survive the population collapse.

Yes, the family is like
a forest, when you are outside it is dense, when you're inside you see that
each tree has its place. When you look from afar the forest appears to be like
one compact unit. The same is true of a family. A true family is one. They are
united against whatever threatens their bond of unity. Whatever affects one
member affects all because they care about one another. The reason they are
united is because each member plays his or her distinct role effectively and
cooperatively. It's not that they love each member equally. No, they don't. In
fact they may even hate what some members do. It's like what happens in an ant
colony. When we look from outside at an ant colony we see a beautiful display
of teamwork. But a closer inspection, according to scientific findings reveals
that the species "hate each other" (source livescience.com). But you see, when there is work to be
done, or an enemy to conquer, they put their differences aside to fight for the
common good. They have different personalities but one purpose: to work for the
common good. We don't have to lose our uniqueness in the quest for unity. We
only need to lose our selfishness. Be unique! [PHOTO SOURCE: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=3812930888780340&set=a.886048424801949]

The Israelian Etiya has no less than 9 children. And that’s of great importance. Because the more children, the better, according to the mother: ‘ Every child is a Mitzva. Every extra child makes the people of Israel bigger.’ [PHOTO SOURCE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYUQ7K_-Dss] https://blackforestproject421.blogspot.com/2024/12/israels-baby-boom-2024-children-are-joy.html |
KINDERWELT LINKS:
The Hebrew phrase for "children are a joy" is "ילדים הם שמחה" (yeldim hem simcha). "ילדים" (yeldim) means "children", and "שמחה" (simcha) means "joy" or "gladness". Israel is the only OECD countries that have the highest fertility rate of 2.91 per woman.
From September 2023 to September 2024, about 183,000 babies were born in Israel, meaning that more than 400 babies were born per day. There was a similar case in 2022, in its annual Amish population study, the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College estimates that 1,450 Amish babies were born in Lancaster County last year. Only 145 Amish of all ages died. That population increase of 1,305 brought the total number of Amish living here to 44,315. There were more Amish births than deaths in that state.
