The Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Act was signed into law on July 7, 2018 after unanimously passing the U.S. House and Senate. It was first introduced in the Senate on May 10, 2017 by Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Bob Casey Jr. (D-PA). Out of this came The Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Advisory Council which will identify, promote, coordinate, and disseminate to the public information, resources, and the best practices available to help grandparents and other older relatives both meet the needs of the children in their care and maintain their own physical and mental health and emotional well-being.

As I have love for both grandparents and their grandchildren, I feel for them all. I will post several sermons on raising children, which are dedicated to both grandfamilies and parents who have children.
Just a disclaimer, these sermons are not for comparing whose sermon was the best or worst, they preached differently on the verses but all of them did a good job.

This is *our song*. Created for grandparents who’ve stepped up to raise their grandchildren, this folk-pop story captures the quiet strength and fierce love at the heart of every Grand-Family. Male and female voices blend to reflect the shared voice of a community rewriting what love looks like in families like ours.
🧡 What You’ll Hear:
• A lyrical journey through love, loss, and rising again
• Real-life moments behind the music: second-hand toys, kitchen-table tears, and bedtime bravery
• The strength of GrandRaisers sung softly, then rising strong
🎧 If you're raising a grandchild — whether for weeks or for years — you are not alone. This song was made with you, and for you.

▼ Full Lyrics ▼ We Rise Together – Our Song
This wasn’t the plan.
But the need was clear.
So we opened our arms… and pulled them near.
They came with questions,
with hurt in their eyes
— and we answered with love,
with truth,
with time.
These aren’t just children.
They are echoes of us.
The children of our children
— a second chance
to do what love does.
We are the keepers of lullabies
and midnight fears,
the ones who show up
through the hardest years.
Not because it’s easy.
Not because we were ready.
But because we are steady.
Because we are fierce.
Because we are still here.
We carry what’s broken
and hold it with care.
We patch what we can.
We breathe healing air.
We are rewriting the story
of what could have been —
for their future,
for our families,
for the roots we tend.
This journey we walk
isn’t marked on a map.
It twists.
It bends.
It circles back.
But side by side,
with hope in our hands,
we shape the days
no one else planned.
We rise together ...
hand in hand,
Loving more than most understand.
We carry their fears,
their songs,
their names,
Through grief and light,
through loss and flames.
Unshakable threads bind us forever...
We’re GrandFamilies.
We rise together.
Our strength isn’t loud —
but it lasts.
It builds bridges from pain to peace,
from sorrow to joy.
We rise together — yes.
But more than that...
Together, our strength shapes generations to come.
Together, we’re rewriting what love looks like —
when it stays.
Together, we are not just surviving...
We are choosing love, resilience… and hope.
This is the legacy.
This is the journey.
This is the story…
we’re rewriting.
