                On this date, April 13, 1742, Handel's Messiah was first performed in Dublin and received its London premiere a year later. Handel's Messiah is one of my favourite oratorios based on the bible.

In memory of this famous oratorio, I will introduce Shenandoah Christian Music Camp - Shenandoah Christian Music Camp strengthens communities with biblically-rooted music and worship resources. Our vision is to see disciples whose music-making reflects Jesus. While we focus on Anabaptist groups, our programs are open to all Christians seeking to deepen their relationship with Christ.

I will post a couple of videos of the music camp before I give my thoughts on this music camp.

Shenandoah Christian Music Camp was started with a focus on serving conservative Anabaptist communities. We don’t confine ourselves to benefiting only Anabaptists, and we hope to serve the church as a whole, but in general we do so by strengthening the music and worship of our communities.

Anabaptism is not a single denomination or a church group. It is, in fact, quite diverse and includes many different church groups with similar historical roots and perspectives. These churches originated in Europe during the Reformation as a distinct, non-centralized movement that was neither Catholic nor Protestant in theology or practice. The movement, called by some the “Radical Reformation,” emphasizes lived obedience to the teachings of Jesus and the apostles.

Some groups that we tend to serve are various groups of Mennonites, Beachy, Amish, River Brethren, Charity, Brethren, Kleine Gemeinde, and unaffiliated Anabaptist churches. We serve individuals from non-Anabaptist churches as well.

Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children's education. - Yo-Yo Ma

It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; - II Chronicles 5:13 (KJV)

Psalm 33 vs 2 to 5

2Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre;

make music for him on the ten-stringed harp.

3Sing a new song of praise to him;

play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy.

4For the word of the LORD holds true,

and we can trust everything he does.

5He loves whatever is just and good;

the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth.

“Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.”
Psalm 150 (KJV)

“Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!”

MY THOUGHTS:

“The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.” - Johann Sebastian Bach

[PHOTO SOURCE: https://au.pinterest.com/pin/181973641181368142/]

            Those are the words of Composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. I wholeheartedly agree whenever I listen to the Shenandoah Christian Music Camp (SCMC), I feel refreshed and joyful. The choir have beautiful voices and they are well trained by good conductors. I recommend them to people who love Christian music.

             Cellist Joshua Roman was quoted as saying:

Connection is very important. It's extremely important for me to be connected and sharing with other people, giving them what I feel is important. – Joshua Roman

            As I am a proponent of community living, music camp is good to be connected and sharing with others when practicing music together. It helps one another in a teamwork. That is what SCMC is doing.

          I look forward to their 20th anniversary this year in 2025. I also encourage people to donate money to their music camp - https://musiccamp.info/donate/

BEN AND ROSE – THE AMISH SINGING COUPLE

https://blackforestproject421.blogspot.com/2025/03/ben-and-rose-amish-singing-couple.html

Friendship arises out of mere companionship when two or more of the companions discover that they have in common some insight or interest or even taste which the others do not share and which, till that moment, each believed to be his own unique treasure (or burden). The typical expression of opening friendship would be something like, “What? You too? I thought I was the only one.” —C. S. Lewis, The Four Loves
