I will post an article about a new Amish store, the Appalachian Country Store that opened in November, 2025 in Moroe County, West Virginia. Before I give my thoughts about Jeff Miller and the New Order Amish.

New Amish market opens in Monroe County
‘Most of all we want to be known as a company and a store that people come to because of the atmosphere.’

MONROE COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) - A new store has officially opened Wednesday in Peterstown, bringing with it the chance for more revenue and visitors.
“This project has been in the making for almost a year now and we wanted to do this for the community and try and be of service to the local community and it’s been great,” said Jeff Miller, owner of The Appalachian Country Store.
This new brick-and-mortar brings more that just new business to Monroe County, it provides a service that many residents would otherwise have to travel out of state for: groceries.
“Monroe County right now in the Peterstown area, we do not even have a place, you have to go to Virginia, so it’s going to keep more of the tax revenue, more of the money, more of the business hopefully coming in to [the county, and] the people will be spending their money in Monroe County,” explained Melvin young, president of the Monroe County Commission.
But while the store may not be able to check off every item on a shopping list, it can promise local home-made goods and a specialized deli menu to boot.

“Food, food, and food…a lot of our stuff is made by the Amish in the area, all the baked stuff. Sandwiches as well, we’ve got six different types of sandwiches and we want to be known for that too… but most of all we want to be known as a company and a store that people come to because of the atmosphere,” said Miller.
Although this is not the first Amish store in Monroe County, it is a step toward development for the community.
“It’s in a very good location, where it’s located at. It’s located right across from Fountain Springs [Golf Course]. It’s in one of the areas that I feel like in the future will be developed, so it’s going to bring more development into that area I believe and also, it’s going to bring more people into the area,” continued Young.

And for Miller, this store is his way of giving back to the community who uplifted him and his family when they moved to Monroe County from Ohio just a year and a half ago.
“First off, people were very welcoming to us. They were very kind and welcoming us to the community, and they did anything to help us out. Especially in particular even like, us being Amish and not having as readily available transportation, people would offer, ‘Can I take you here? Can I take you there?’,” continued Miller.
“And on those trips with local people, we’d talk, and I’d get a feel for what they wanted, and now with this being done, the people that supported us very well, I feel like we’ve kind of really grown into it, and we’re grateful, very grateful to the locals for that.”
The foot traffic in this store need not be just local, however, with Young encouraging all to come out and take a peek.

MY THOUGHTS:
This year 2026, marks 60 years since 1966, where the New Order Amish split away from the Old Order Amish. I will be posting more about the New Order Amish this year. They are open to using technology but still use horse and buggy. They are very similar to the Amish-Mennonite and the Beachy Amish-Mennonite.
I believe that the owner of the Market, Jeff Miller is a New Order Amish, for two reasons: first, he has a trimmed beard and secondly, he does not mind being on camera. He reminds me of The McCallum family of Tasmania and Matthew Secich, a former chef who is a convert Amish. They all own businesses. See the Springfield Farm Fresh Produce - McCallum Family
I was happy when the English (non-Amish) helped Jeff Miller and his family like transportation. I encourage those English and the Amish-Mennonite community to work as a team as though they are a family, I mean teamwork and family together as it will help their businesses and community engagement to flourish.

7. There were two pony-drawn "trains" for the little ones at last week's Family Farm and Field Days event near Walnut Creek Ohio. Attendance was free and a great place to bring the whole family. Dozens of vendor booths and business sponsorships helped pay for the two day event. JD [VIDEO SHARED]
