Scottsdale, Northeast Tasmania

19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
    by understanding he established the heavens;
20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
    and the clouds drop down the dew.

- Proverbs 3:19-20 (ESV)

 Scottsdale is the largest town in north-east Tasmania, Australia, serving as the administrative and economic centre of the Dorset Council region. Located on the Tasman Highway, it connects Launceston to the east coast and acts as a key service hub for surrounding agricultural areas. The town has a strong historical association with potato and dairy farming, forestry, and poppy cultivation, industries that continue to support its economy. In recent years, Scottsdale has expanded into tourism, with attractions such as Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links and the Bridestowe Lavender Estate farm drawing visitors. It is also home to the Defence Science and Technology Group's nutrition research facility.

Scottsdale is part of the federal Division of Bass and the state electoral division of the same name. According to the 2021 Australian census, Scottsdale had a population of 2,408 residents.

Having been to both Tasmania and Switzerland, I feel that Northern Tasmania reminds me of Schweizer Mittelland also known as the Swiss Plateau, as Tasmania is nicknamed ‘The Switzerland of the South’. As Southern Tasmania, I nicknamed it the Black Forest of Tasmania

 Meet the McCallums, one of Australia's few Amish families

Ever wanted to not just slow down, but jump off the grid? A family leaves behind the trappings of the 21st century to lead a simple, pious life in rural Tasmania.

Scottsdale is also 8km away from Springfield where the Amish-Mennonite family, the McCallums live.

I will post photos of Scottsdale together with parts of Northeast Tasmania and drone videos of Scottsdale Tasmania. I will also post photos of the Schweizer Mittelland.

14 You cause the grass to grow for the livestock
    and plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth food from the earth
15     and wine to gladden the heart of man,
oil to make his face shine
    and bread to strengthen man's heart.

O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. – Psalm 104:24 (ESV)

There's something special about capturing the beauty of Tasmania's landscape🌾🐎I was driving to North Scottdale when I stumbled upon these gorgeous horses grazing in the field with Bass Strait view in the background🌊💨 Sometimes it's the unexpected moments that take a great photo 😁

This photo is from a postcard, perhaps 1970s, labelled 'Aerial view of Scottsdale, Tasmania'. We can only assume that Scottsdale is the cluster at the top of the photo. The unflattering postcard description says of Scottsdale 'Largest town in the relatively undeveloped north-east corner of Tasmania'. Today's question is, what is the aspect of this image, what road are we looking down to get to Scottsdale?

A flight over Mt Stronach near Scottsdale Tasmania. With the recent road upgrade by the Dorset Council it is easy to access the walking track that takes you to the summit cairn on Mt Stronach. Spectacular panoramic views of the countryside and surrounding mountains. On a clear day you can see as far as Flinders Island.

Alpabzug is a traditional Swiss autumn festival where herds of decorated cows are led down from the mountain pastures to the valleys for winter. This event celebrates the end of the summer grazing season and involves a festive parade with the cows adorned in flowers and bells, often accompanied by traditional music, food, and crafts. It is also known as "Alpabfahrt" or "désalpe" and is a significant cultural event in Switzerland.

Love Is Work Working together with others is the best way to test our faith, to find out whether or not we are ready to live a life of Christian fellowship. Work is the crucial test of faith because such a life can come into being only where people work for love. Love demands action, and the only really valid action is work. Christian fellowship means fellowship in work. – Eberhard Arnold
