The Black Forest Project 421 Blog was founded on April 21, 2023 to commemorate the Dordrecht Confession of Faith, which was adopted on April 21, 1632. The name, Black Forest (Schwarzwald) was chosen because I love viewing it  for its beautiful scenery and I love the Black Forest House (Schwarzwaldhaus), which will be the logo of the blog.

The Black Forest region of Germany played a significant role in the early Anabaptist movement, particularly in the development of the Schleitheim Confession. This area provided refuge for Anabaptists seeking to practice their faith away from persecution. The 12 Articles of the German Peasants in 1525, could have inspired the Four Core Values.

Black Forest is not only referring to the one in Germany but I compare it as it similar to mountain ranges in Switzerland, Austria and Tasmania.

This blog is dedicated to the Four Core Values of the Anabaptist: Faith, Family, Community and Simple Living. I will also speak of both Protestants and Anabaptist faith. Most of the blog posts in this blog will be related to the Four Core Values. As also a memorial to the 12 Articles of the German Peasants in 1525, there will be 12 related topics on this blog, they are:

24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. – Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)

Like the Puritans, live in terms of the settled judgement that the joy of heaven will make amends of any losses and crosses, strains and pains that we must endure on earth if we are going to follow Christ faithfully. Regard preparedness to die as the first step in learning to live. - Joel Beeke

Life inside a Puritan community in early America was shaped by faith, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility toward both God and neighbor. These settlers believed they were building a society that would reflect Christian values in every part of daily life. Church was not simply a place of worship—it was the heart of the town. Long sermons, serious reflection, and shared prayer created a culture where religion guided how people spoke, worked, raised families, and treated one another. To the Puritans, a strong community meant living with humility, honesty, and a constant awareness of moral duty.

Family life was equally central to Puritan culture. Homes were expected to be orderly and respectful, with parents teaching children the importance of faith, hard work, and obedience from a young age. Education was valued because reading the Bible was considered essential, which is why many early New England towns quickly established schools. Work itself was seen as a form of devotion—laboring diligently was believed to honor God and strengthen the community. While their strict rules could sometimes feel rigid, Puritan communities also created tightly connected towns where shared beliefs built a powerful sense of unity and purpose that would influence American culture for generations.

and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal. And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind:

the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight.

And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,

who was and is and is to come!”

And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever,

10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God,

to receive glory and honor and power,

for you created all things,

and by your will they existed and were created.”

- Revelation 4 verse 6 to 11 (ESV)\

The Black Forest (German: Schwarzwald [ˈʃvaʁt͡svalt] (listen)) is a large forested mountain range in south-west Germany, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, bounded by the Rhine valley to the west and south and close to the borders with France and Switzerland. It is the source of the Danube and Neckar rivers.

Its highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 metres (4,898 ft) above sea level. Roughly oblong in shape, with a length of 160 kilometres (100 miles) and breadth of up to 50 km (30 mi), it has an area of about 6,009 km2 (2,320 sq mi).

Historically, the area was known for forestry and the mining of ore deposits, but tourism has now become the primary industry, accounting for around 300,000 jobs. There are several ruined military fortifications dating back to the 17th century.

Hohenzollern Castle (German: Burg Hohenzollern [bʊʁk hoːənˈtsɔlɐn] ) is the ancestral seat of the formerly imperial House of Hohenzollern. The third of three hilltop castles built on the site, it is located atop Mount Hohenzollern, above and south of Hechingen, on the edge of the Swabian Jura of central Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The name derives from Söller (terrace) from Latin solarium.

The Dordrecht Confession of Faith is a statement of religious beliefs adopted by Dutch Mennonite leaders at a meeting in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, on 21 April 1632. Its 18 articles emphasize belief in salvation through Jesus Christ, baptism, nonviolence (non-resistance), withdrawing from, or shunning those who are excommunicated from the Church, feet washing ("a washing of the saints' feet"), and avoidance of taking oaths.
