February 12 is the birthday of the Amish founder, Jakob Ammann, who was born in 1644. One of the Amish 4 core values is simple living. Here is what they believe:

The most obvious trait of the Amish community is that they choose to lead a simple life. But the reason they do this is because they believe simplicity is a symbol of humility. They take seriously the Biblical commands to separate themselves from worldly things.

Often the first thing that identifies the Amish is the way they dress. Amish fashion styles are simple, practical, and modest. Clothing is generally made at home using plain fabrics. Their choice of clothing shows their commitment to the principles of the Amish church – to live simply.

Despite the many advancements in our society, the Amish do not typically utilize modern or worldly things like electricity, technology, vehicles, and other modern conveniences that many of us depend on for our daily lives. They believe worldliness can keep them from being close to God which could present influences that may be destructive to their communities and their way of life. By living simply and restricting access to unnecessary items, such as fancy clothes, TV, or iPhones, the Amish feel they can keep the modern world from intruding into their lives and allow them to remain focused on their faith and family.

By following the four principle values of faith, family, community, and living a simple and modest life, the Amish live out their own religious beliefs and lead a unique life in their own spiritual way.

The truth is even the other anabaptist groups like the Beachy Amish-Mennonites, Mennonites and Hutterites all follow the Four core values of the Amish, that is why they have large families, with an average of four children each. They also get together often with their church friends like a herd of elephants or lions.

I will post some photo quotes of simple living and I will introduce Titus Morris, a farmer from Kentucky who lives a simple life on a video and two articles on him.

There is also a barn in the property where Titus keeps the horse for his horse-drawn buggy and during the summer months, he sleeps amid the hay in the loft as it is cooler.

The following is an excerpt from Daily mail:

In terms of his home base, Titus lives in a small abode on a 50-acre plot, which he bought for $60,000 with some savings and some financial aid from his parents.

His open-plan home consists of a kitchen, a dining space and an area to sleep.

While there are light fixtures and appliances such a fridge, none of them work as Titus disconnected the electricity when he moved in.

Instead of an indoor bathroom, there is a small outhouse as a toilet, and Titus has formed a dam in the creek, so a deeper pool of water serves as a bath.

This is fine during the summer months, but during the winter it can get a little chilly.

When it gets cooler, Titus also starts wearing shoes again as he says it's 'not healthy' to go barefoot in the cold.

There is also a barn in the property where Titus keeps the horse for his horse-drawn buggy and during the summer months, he sleeps amid the hay in the loft as it is cooler.

His outdoor space consists of about 20 acres of open pasture and 30 acres of woodland.

During the summer, he likes to cook on a wood burning stove on his front porch as it gets too hot inside.

In line with his religious beliefs, Titus does not eat any meat and he never had any dairy or egg products growing up.

He says his plant-based diet has not impacted his athleticism, and he has ample strength to climb trees and scale a rope into the loft of his barn.

Titus also says he is generally in good health and this year he hasn't been sick at all, 'not even a stuffy nose.'

While he is happy with his home setup, Titus says a functioning refrigerator would be 'handy,' as currently he has to keep goods cool in the creek.

He explains: 'I can put stuff in the creek and it will keep overnight. Like, if I have beans leftover or something I can put them in a pot in the creek and they'll stay good overnight.'

2. Dandelion Greens: Harvested from the wild, dandelion greens were a nutrient-rich addition to the Amish diet. They were either used in salads or sautéed with basic seasonings. The greens provided a cost-effective and healthful alternative during times of scarcity.
3. Head Cheese: To create head cheese, the Amish boiled the head of a pig until the meat was tender. The cooked meat was then mixed with broth, set to cool and solidify. Served with crackers or bread, head cheese showcased the Amish’s aptitude for utilizing unconventional ingredients.
4. Scalloped Corn: Scalloped corn, a beloved Amish dish, involved combining sweet corn with eggs, milk, butter, and flour. The mixture was then baked in the oven until it formed a golden crust. Many Amish families have passed down this recipe for generations and continue to enjoy it as a staple dish in their community.
5. Chow Chow was made by combining vegetables such as cabbage, onions, and peppers. The mixture was then pickled in a vinegar-based solution. Versatile in its applications, chow chow served as a tangy side dish or a zesty addition to sandwiches.
6. Cornmeal Mush, a breakfast porridge, was prepared by boiling cornmeal and water until it thickened. The solidified mixture was sliced and fried, often served with syrup or gravy for breakfast. This dish reflected the Amish commitment to sustaining themselves with basic ingredients.

Financially, Titus says his low-key living means his expenses are minimal.

His outgoings include $90 a month for the landline telephone, about $20 a month on food for his dogs, Sadie and Spartacus, and another $30 on produce he can't grow, such as bananas and Himalayan salt.

He also pays $250 a year in taxes.

After being brought up in a 'very religious' family, Titus continued living as simply as possible.

While his parents have a computer and electricity, he decided to take things back to basics even further.

He says he lives in a similar way to the Amish community, but he does not follow their religion and practices pure Christianity instead.

Adding to the mystery, he has no official form of ID.

His parents got him a social security number for him as a child but he never signed it and later decided to revoke it.

Then, his birth certificate washed away in a flood and he has never had a driver's license.

He told viewers in the first YouTube documentary: 'I don't exist in the eyes of the government but I do exist in the lives of people that know me and my Father in heaven.'

After finding love, Titus's next ambition is to build a church, so people can come and visit him on his farmstead and connect with God.

Santenello's second YouTube video includes a link to a GoFundMe page titled 'Titus's Church.'

So far, more than $137,000 has been raised of $125,000 goal.

One fan from the UK wrote on the fundraising page after donating $9: 'Titus is an amazing guy.

'He brings so much positivity and faith to so many, and this donation will help him along his, and is followers journey.'

Another supporter from the Netherlands who donated $10, added: 'You are living the dream and inspiring others, would love to visit the church when it's done. Keep up the good work!'

A life just as it was 300 years ago: the Amish in the US. They live according to their own rules, reject technological advances, wear old-fashioned clothing and drive horse-drawn carts. An encounter with the Amish is like traveling back in time.

Originating from southern Germany and Switzerland, the Amish community brought its culture and language to the New World. Deeply rooted in their faith, the Amish adhere to strict codes and reject modern technology. For outsiders, these rules can sometimes appear strange. They traverse their rural communities in horse-drawn carts, but if a distance is too far, they’re allowed to use a shuttle service. They don’t use telephones unless it’s for business purposes and the device is located outside of the home.

Children are expected to help with housework even when they’re attending school. But before they’re baptized as young adults and finally become part of the Amish community, they’re allowed to try what’s called the rumspringa: a period of time when they’re encouraged to behave like regular teenagers - before deciding on which lifestyle they prefer. But those who opt for a conventional, modern existence are exiled. The film sheds light on a fascinating world governed by tradition.

Day 1 Moving Sunday School

This the detailed video of day 1 of moving the St Marks Sunday School from Bridport to Springfield. This building was used for a multitude of purposes, line and tap dancing, girl guides, cubs, brownies and a school library as well as a Sunday School. It was impressive to watch a team of professionals navigate the tight spaces to set up their gear and move the building without doing any damage. Part 2 will show how it travelled by road through Scottsdale, up Saliers Hill to its new home on the Amish family farm at Springfield.
